I am trying to get a 1975 9.9 to work. It starts but dies when under a strain. While looking for the problem I noticed that when I pumped the fuel line, form the gas tank, gas squirted out of a crack in a plastic device labeled as a filter. As best I could tell, this filter had the number 312629 on it. Is this the fuel filter or fuel filter and fuel pump? Also, there are no dealers in my area. Do you know of anyone online where I can order this part?

Tom, the part you are describing is the fuel line connection to the fuel pump. This part has a thumbscrew to disconnect it from the fuel pump and it has a filter screen, hence the term 'filter screen'. If you have a leak in this part, the fuel pump can suck air and break the vacuum to the fuel tank, stopping the fuel flow. This part also has a replaceable gasket to insure an air tight seal to the fuel pump.

This is a great forum and always supplies good, usable information. I ordered the part and will be installing as soon as it arrives.

Thanks very much for all responses.:)
