88 Force 125 RPM Question

Just a few questions I hope someone can help.

Force 125 what is the proper Idle RPM and what is the proper WOT RPM. How do you adjust the RPMs.

Motor was running rough, but would reach over 5000 RPMs. I changed the spark plugs. Now running smooth, but at WOT will not go past 3500 RPMs. and at idle about 600ish.

Any thoughts

Check your spark plug wires, make sure 2 are not crossed.

Re: 88 Force 125 RPM Question

Thanks MikDee,

I looked at my wires and they are not crossed they are 1234.

I took the boat out today, I was just hoping it was just bad gas or somthing, I took it to WOT and it would not break plane, until I got on the front deck a little then it did better, and got up to 4500 RPMS, with it trimmed. SO how do I get it to it will break plane without me having to move towards the front deck?

MikDee did you ever get your problem fixed?

Re: 88 Force 125 RPM Question

After reading all the threads on here about 125's. I thought I would check the new spark plugs to see if they are all firing. I found that the number 3 spark plug did not have any carbon on it like the rest did, so I am pretty sure that it was not firing. I have ordered a Manual and I am waiting on it. So while I am waiting does anyone have any sugestion on what might be going on. Should I just put another new plug in there and see what happens? I champion UL18V's in there, should I switch to NGK plugs?

??? And what's wrong with Champions? Been using them for years in all my vehicles, as a replacement for most other brands. IMO never had a problem, in fact quite the contrary, I usually get more power out of them then others. Their trademark used to be a projected nose to put the spark down into the combustion chamber more, and for better cooling. Besides they used to be one of the only plated plugs, to prevent them from rusting. I had an AC plug rust up on me so bad one time in a good running 888 Mercruiser I just bought, that I had to take the head off the motor to get it out! I never cared much for AC's anyway, but decided for marine use never to get a non-plated spark plug again. Sure, the NGK, Bosch, and Denso plugs seem good, but, years ago before they were on the scene, Champions were the plug of choice for me, ever since the weekend racers at the local track were putting them in their Chevy's, in place of the original AC's and having better luck.

Lets just stick to the Force here (but for kicks, 2 of my Harleys foul up Champs, NGK/Bosch Plats work fine...and the plugs we are talking here are surface gaps.);
Back to the Force, would foul the Champs, but after going to the NGK's, zero prob. Same in one of my dirtbikes. Really it's a Ford/Chevy thing...and all motors have a slight carberation diff, and gas all aint the same, as what oil we use. Its still, and always will be, an experimental thing..I still like NGK's in a lot of my motors, and my 350 boat runs great on AC's

Re: 88 Force 125 RPM Question

Well Scaaty, Thanks for the tip, I was interested in your opinion, because you, and many other's have helped me quite abit on this forum, also, I'm always open to new idea's if the NGK's work better in the Force, and the other application's you mentioned, I'll give them a shot, but not right away,,, I just bought the Champs, but my next set for the Force will be NGK's, By the way anyone have an opinion on how the Autolites are? When I was in NC, all I could get for my son's Force at the time were the Autolites, they seemed to work okay.

Re: 88 Force 125 RPM Question

Before I changed all my plugs (beacuse it ran like crap) the previous owner had both spark plugs in it. 1 and 4 had champion and 2 and 3 had NGK. The carbon was easier to take off the NGK than the Champions with just seafoam and a rag.

Actually anything that works is OK, long as its in the right heat range. And while on the subject...(this is a real freaking burr in my saddle)..who excacty did these plug companies hire to name/number plugs lately? Some wrap clean around the plug. And why not a SIMPLE heat range letter stamp, like A for hottest, etc. I have some plug cross reference charts and even after 50+years, still gibberish

Yeah! I'm with you on that one Scaaty!,,, It seems everytime I change my plugs, whatever brand it is has a new reference number, talk about confusing!
Forget about trying to cross reference between brands, it gets even worse.

Thanks for everyonw help....

I found that the #3 Ignitin Coil was not working so I replaced that, left the NGK plugs in. Engine runs great.
