i don't know the first thing about boats. a few years back my family bought a 03 or 04 inboard/outboard Crownline speed boat, not sure of the exact model at the moment though. this was in Michigan. we haven't had a single problem with it until recently we moved down to Florida and the first time we put it in the water, after cruisin' for a few minutes it started to steam up real bad. now we talked to someone at a boat shop and they said it sounded like it was the thermostat and that we should just tear it out because they are not used at all in Florida waters. and that should fix the problem. just curious as to what everyones thoughts are.

NEVER go to that shop again, they are idiots. The thermostats need to be in the engine to help keep the temp consistant all over the engine. Without it, it has hot spots and cold spots. With it it stays the same.

I would bet you have a problem with needing a raw water pump impeller and not a thermostat anyway. The impellers (Depending on what you have) are a maintenance type thing and should be replaced about ever other year.

You also need to find out what engine, drive, combination you have. Just that it's a crownline means nothing.

Re: thermostat help

First piece of advice is NEVER EVER talk to that "mechanic" (and I use the word loosely) again. He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. If you don't know when the raw water pump impeller was last changed that would be a good place to start. Probably wouldn't hurt to replace the thermostat also. DO NOT leave the thermostat out and try running the engine. You can do serious damage to the engine.

steam up real bad

so, just what does that mean. steamed up real bad?

listen to dons and real poor. you need your t-stat. don't remove it. if ya wonder if it's good. remove it and put in a pan with a themometer and check it. it should start to open at what's stamped on the part + 20* to full open.
