I have a 1960 40hp Johnson and I want to do a rebuild during the winter, the problem is that I can t find info or Sierra part number for piston rings.
Iboats have piston rings from 1970 and up, what about 1960?
Can somebody tell me the part # or direct me to a site who caries the piston rings.
Thank you.

Part number 380108 fits 1960-1970. There is no Sierra interchange. 1971-up is different.

Re: 1960 Johnson piston rings

I checked and found that Sierra doesn't carry those rings. Sorry to say that I don't have them either. However, for your reference........

The original and superseded part numbers of the std and .020 O/S rings are as follows.

Std - 307109 supersedes to 380108

.020 - 307599 supersedes to 380109

I would suspect that some dealerships might still have a few left in stock.

So you guys tell me that those piston rings are hard to find?
They are a common and fairly large number of this kind of engines alive today.

True, there are a lot of them still around. However it IS over 47 years old, and most but not all commonly needed parts are still available. I think that's a pretty good track record from a company that went bankrupt and revived since your motor was built. Try sea-way.com/
