1997 Johnson thermostat

Can anyone tell me where it is located, have had the alarm going off with good water stream. Has been suggested to me to remove and try without thermostat in. If does not over heat, then replace with new thermostat, just having trouble finding it

what size motor is it? You say its not over heating I had the same problem on my 1995 20 hp.It turned out to be the temp. switch. On mine there is a tan &black wire running to left side top into a rubber grommet the switch is behind the grommet.If you know for sure its not overheating you can follow the wire back and unplug it for now so you can use it.

sorry, left it out, its a 70hp 97 johnson. I am getting the overheat alarm after about 10 mn running, but good am't of water running through the pump. So trying to remove thermostat, just can't seem to find it - anyone know where to look?
