Found boat locally "NO MOTOR" is a mid 80s boat. Said is was a 17ft but it looks huge $1000. It has controls, would I be able to use these on a different motor? is a center console with the top mounted controls. It also had a 140 on it. How small of a motor could I use on this boat? I can get a 70hp easy. found a 96 sunbird with a 115 johnson for $2500 considering buying both putting 115 on McKee and putting 70hp on sunbird and reselling it. OPINIONS WELCOME....

Pictures would be nice:)

1000 bucks sounds kind of high for a mid 80s boat with no engine.

McKee are nice, but no Boston Whaler, as far as value.

McKee worked for Boston Whaler and went out on his own..... the smaller models are almost replicas but heavier. Good boats.

Here are some pictures. I went and looked at it again. Minimal rust on trailer. What you see on the wheel covers is the most of it. New springs and its on rollers. Boat is fairly clean minimal broken parts and seats are in good shape and not in need of any repair.

I think it is easily worth the grand, center consoles fetch good money...I would think a 70 would move it along just fine.

Looks like a great buy for $1,000. The 115HP should be more than enough. Not sure I want to be in it with 140HP pushing it at WOT! Good luck and tell us what you do with it.

that boat is worth the $1000. don't go over the rated HP, i don't care what it had on it. 70 would be suffient, unless you are going outside, then i'd want more.

Have Not picked it up yet but I bought it kind of. Offered $900 and he said he would have to think about it. Called back in 5 and said wife said it was OK. Should get it Tuesday. I looked at it today and noticed that the Motor cables are kinda shot, and then he mentioned it tonight. I am going to put the 70HP on it and then I will not be making payments and could afford to put money back into the boat.
