Rebuilt carb on Johnson 9.9-1988-md#J10ECCD- Serial# E6284213-still having problems with keeping motor running. Looked up carb on BPR Parts website. It shows the carb I have --the cover gasket ref. #17, part # 0331750 or 0334043 shown in the blow up is not looking like any I got with my rebuild kit [part # 439073]. Could I have put in the wrong gasket? Two or three types came with the kit but none look like the one blown up.:confused:

Those lid gaskets have changed around some since the originals. Pick the one that's closest out of the kit, and it should work fine. What exactly is the problem you're encountering after the rebuild?

Did you remove the core plug and soak the carb body during the rebuild? If the choke fixes it, it's in the carb still.

Sorry, forgot which carb you have. The plastic lid type doesn't have core plugs. My guess is that the lid is probably leaking air. You can get a new lid from the dealer (or maybe ishopmarine). I think it's been superseded by another part that's less likely to warp and crack.

Might try looking on ebay for an entire used carb. Should be able to find one for under $50.

Not great, but for a rope-start 9.9 it's not bad either. They're even and that's what matters. I still think your idle problem is that cracked and repaired plastic top plate. That contains all the idle circuits.
