Its not mine but I am suppose to be buying it tomorrow. Today I went and looked at it and noticed that there was a couple spots on the bottom that water was slightly coming out. I am guessing that small holes or cracks whatever it is can it be fixed? Getting to the problem I found the cap up front where they put in the foam pulled it off and its wet. How much of a problem is this? How do you dry it out? How much water is it holding? I am guessing weight wise its prob 100+lbs Should I back out? I really don't want to as I like the boat 84 center console inside in super nice shape but no motor $900 including trailer also in really good shape other than needing lights minimal rust. I am up to doing some work but on a budget.

Well...... a few things come to mind.

If you can get an accurate weight and look up the base weight on NADAguides.com it will give you an idea. Water weighs about 8 lbs per gallon and if it is "water logged" it will NOT dry out in any reasonable amount of time. It usually means opening the deck and removing the wet foam.

If water is leaking through the fiberglass...... that is BAD and can cause seperation between the layers and almost NO REPAIR will work. If water is coming out of the drain hole .... that can happen with just condensation.

Think hard about this one. Others will chime in.

water is coming out about about 3 places on the bottom all on the same 90 bend. I would think there are small cracks. It was not dripping out just wet and would come back in a few min after wiping it off.

A place that does ultrasonic testing might be able to take readings on the hull to tell you how much water is in there.

One basic test is;
take it somewhere that has a crane, sling the back of the boat and lift it up to 45? or more and see how much water runs out the inspection cover you spoke of. You may have to leave it suspended for several hours.

If a substantial amount comes out, you have no flotation, only sponge. Then the deck has to come off the hull, remove the old foam and spray new to make the boat safe on open water.
After you seal the cracks at the back.

If your hull leaks water then the repairs should be made from the inside. Since you are leaking water out, I would think that your foam floatation is also saturated. This brings on a whole new can of worms, unless you are looking for a long term project. Run away! There is a solid boat somewhere waiting on you, but perhaps for a little more then $900.00. So your choice is: either you want a boat or a project for this year.

just an idea to help with your decision: check the motor mounting bolt holes in the transom for rot! give you a better idea of what you are getting into as far as repairs. nice thing about buying a boat with no motor on it
