This is a general question about the float and needle valve operation. Is the small wire clip which hooks to the needle valve supposed to pull the valve down as the float drops or it it the pressure of the fuel pump which forces the needle valve down. As my carbs are apart I am checking out the function. When I invert the carb the float pushes the needle valve to seat as would the fuel level rising as when in operation. When I turn the carb right side up(operating position the needle does not always drop), if I blow on the fuel inlet it then drops.Sometimes I have to blow rather hard. Hopefully this thread will help others in the future as well as give me a better understanding of this basic carb function.Appreciate your imput here. Thank You.

That needle as you describe it is sticking. It should be free to drop on its own. Rodbolt can correct me if I'm wrong.

no correction nessasary, the needle is sticking in the seat.
carefully clean the seat, unless its a replacable seat then replace it.
while the wire simply aids in pulling the needle it should not have to.
the needle should fall with gravity.

Re: Rodbolt Please -Float Tang Jet Adjustment

That is what I thunk. So what the heck is up. Brand new OEM Yammy needle and seat included in the carb rebuild kit. I put a drop of thin oil on the seat after seeing the needle stick a bit. Helped a tad but I am not confident to put it all back together again for the second time, especially when I am trying to correct what I think is a lean fuel condition. The old needles dropped easily from their seats. What next? Once again Thanks for your replies.

Re: Rodbolt Please -Float Tang Jet Adjustment

Here is where I went wrong. I failed to notice the little plastic plug which goes on top of the needle which in turn made me adjust my float tang way down. This in turn pushed the needle to tight into the valve and the seat thus not allowing it to slide down by the force of gravity. In other words I found out why my new OEM Yammy valve was sticking. Another lesson learned. Thank You Rodbolt and Bowhntrrl. I appreciate your imput. Hope others learn from my mistake. Check my post I make plenty of them.
