I have a 1983 johnson 50hp 2 cylinder, model J50BELCTA, serial 5810269. The lower unit is bad. I am looking at a 1978 55hp johnson on ebay to get the lower unit off of. The 1978 is model number 55EL78S, serial number E4902345. Can someone tell me for sure if the lower unit off of the 1978 55hp Johnson will bolt up to the 1983 50hp Johnson? I have been told that the part numbers may be different, but they may still work. I just desperately need someone who can tell me for sure before I buy it and drive 4 hours to pick up a motor and find out later that it is not correct. Thanks!!!
