I have twin F225's. The starboard trim is acting weak while trimming up when it is under load.
It make an oscillating sound while trimming up that it didn't before.
No leak found.

I checked the owners manual, it tells me to use Dextron II
fluid, but doesn't say how to top off.

Is this a low fluid problem, and how do you fill ?

Is it a bad valve or weak motor?

thanks, Randy

should be a plug on right top make sure that it is trimed all the way up so there wont be pressure.the other thing to check is connections for corrosion that would make it sound different. also make sure battery is full.

Re: Yamaha F225 trim problem

Checked fluid, full and looks ok.

I think its a weak by-pass valve on the trim up function.

Spoke with a local Yamaha tech and did not have any confidence that he could fix it. He said they may have to replace the whole trim/ tilt unit, like $1800....... no way.

Other than the trim up under pressure problem the unit works fine.
It's a fresh water boat so this thing should come apart ok.

Help, I want to make contact with someone that actually rebuilds these things. I can pull the unit and ship it if need be.

Looking for someone that knows these units.

Thanks, Randy

that unit is actually easy to repair. look on your techs wll for the drivetrain school certification, if its not there find a real dealer that has actuall trained techs.
