I have a '88 evinrude 70 that will crank but not stay running. Acts like it just burns the gas in the float bowl and dies but when I look to see if that is the case the bowls are full. Any suggestions.

Re: 70 won't stay cranked

How long you had this motor, has it been like this since you got it? How long since it's been ran?
Done any recent maintenance?
Is the VRO still connected or have you converted to premix?
Time since last carb rebuild?
What's the compression on this motor?
Any other symptoms?
Does it make any difference whether the hi-idle lever is up or down?

After it dies:
What do the plugs look like? (wet or dry, clean or fouled, oily, etc.)
Is it hard to restart?
Is the fuel line still pressurized?

When it starts to die off, try pumping the primer bulb. Then try bumping the choke. See if either helps it keep running.
