I just purchased a 76 evinrude 15 h.p.
I ran the motor for the first time and am a little worried about the amount of water coming out of the pee hole. im used to seeing bigger outboards sray a constant stream. with this motor it trickles out slowly when iddling and i would say girgles and spits out when running. is this something to be concerned about??

Make sure your pee hole is clean. Its a great place for crap to collect. You should change the impeller and pump anyway unless you know how long it has been.

your dealing with an extreme novice here, should a motor like this have a steady stream of water coming out? and how exactly do I make sure that the pee hole is clean? thanks

Hi give em 3 !
welcome aboard ! Yes I'd be worried , there should be a steady stream . best advice for anyone buying a o.b. second hand is ...1) buy a manual 2) change the water pump 3) do a tune up . Great advise I've seen time and again from the wiser folks at iboats (I'm just repeating the lessons they schooled to me)
when i got my J 40 the previous owner swore the pump was working great the last time he used it , but I knew the boat hadn't been used in 12 years so I didn't take a chance!! secureity comes from knowing what youv'e done;pride comes from knowing you did it well!

ok -I started typeing as the others were replying + the picture helps ands, but that style is like my new project motor .(I haven't seen it run) I'd still belive it should pee from the back left corner -facing the motor's front- and the advice still stands -P.S. great paint job!

im gonna sound even dumber now but there is a hole directly under what I would call the motor case. its about as big as a dime, you can see it in the pic. is that where the water is supposed to spray out of?? or should I be looking somewhere else??

If there is a "nipple" on it with a black hose running to the motor , that is your tell tale hole. Take the hose off, then the nipple will pop out. Clean this thoroughally because those pesky spiders love building nests in them for some reason when they are not in use. Another reason water pressure could be low would be that the water line is blocked. When you drop the lower unit to change the impeller, there will be a rubber grommet on top of the impeller housing. Make sure that this is seated correctly and not shoved into the impeller housing restricting water flow, Ive seen this happen many times. Also while the lower unit is down, run some compressed air or the garden hose up the water line, taking out one t stat at a time, letting the air/water exit there. THis will ensure that the water line is not clogged.
