1981 Merc 260 5.7L RPM Range

Can anyone provide me the RPM Range to WOT for a 1981 SeaRay 350 with a merc 260. I max out at 4200-4300 RPM. Shoud I be getting more RPMs from this motor and lower unit?

4200 to 4600 is the spec. Being on the high side of the spec is better than the low side as far as strain on the engine is concerned.
4400 to 4600 will give you a little better out of the hole starts and probably the same top speed. But you can also load the boat heavier and still be within spec.

Thanks foer the input. I am going to check my prop pitch and I will probably ask for a recomended pitch based on the existing prop.

Ayuh,........

You might want to do a Complete Tune-up on the Motor,............
Before you go throwing Money at a Prop.............
If the Motor ain't making the Horsepower,....... The Prop can't put it into the Water........
