Good Day,
Can anybody tell me if a manual for a 1965 Evinrude 5.5 Fisherman is the same as a 1964.As i am have a hard time finding one for my 1964.
Will a lower skeg off of a 1960 Gale 5.0hp(part# 303335D2)fit my 1964 Evinrude 5.5 Fisherman as i do not know who made Gale. They seem to look the same in a picture from what i can see!!!! Please remember this is a two piece lower end.If somebody has one for a 1964 Evinrude 5.5 fisherman Please let me know.....

Any differences between a '64 and '65 would be so minor that you would have to hunt for them.

The skegs are matched to the upper part of the gearcase and are not interchangeable from one motor to the next. But some people do it anyway.

The Gale was made by Gale Products Division of OMC. Many, but not all, parts are the same as their Johnson/Evinrude cousins. The lower unit would be the same.

Hmmm... accordding to my manual they did not make a 5.5hp in '65. They made a 5hp and a 6hp. But the 6 was just a hopped up 5.5. And the 5 was just a detuned 6! Follow? Most 5.5 parts are interchangable over the years... Very simple good engines...

Your right, Steve. 1964 was the last year of the 5.5 hp. However, the lower unit was relatively unchanged and used on several different models up to 1979. All 5.5 hp Johnson/Evinrude lower units are the same. From what I've seen the Gales of that era used the same lower unit as the Johnson/Evinrudes.

I have used skegs from other motors with good results. Only once did one not quite fit properly.
