Check out this page your # seems to fall between the 79 and 81 mdl years or maybe the dealer put on the older motor to clean up some extra stock ive seen that happen on package boats. Good luck

also this motor is in excellent shape i would rate it a 9 outta 10 cause its been hardly used very clean always stayed in a garge anybody know what kinda money this would pull im looking to either upgrade to a bigger motor or a smaller one

Motor is definitely a 1979 Mercury 40hp 402 as was indicated earlier by skimmer.

It -might- have a charging system. Look for yellow wires coming down from under your flywheel, and see if they go to a rectifier (small square item with 3 terminals, as per image below) and then onward to the red lead on the starter solenoid. If they do, you are charging your battery.

The 2 cylinder Merc weren't known to be the most reliable motors they ever built. Street value is too dfficult to judge sight unseen.

very helpfull forum i came from another forum for my last hobby (racing radio controlled cars) an i love having genuine people to help out thanks everyone i really do appreciate it.

the boat is in very good shape little floor rot is al cut out an ill be putting some new plywood patches an i redid all the electrican set the boat up with depth finder an all new dual batterys an switches for everything im looking for either a smaller 4 stroke 20 hp max for a local lake or a bigger 2 stroke to run up in the deleware rive north of philadelphia so im kinda wondering if the 2stroke 40 is gonna do the job
