Hi- Engine is a Mercruiser 325 (427 big block GM) in a 1973 Cruise-a-Home. I am going to remove the exhaust manifold (and risers), intake manifold, and then the heads. Engine will stay in the boat, and there is plenty of room to work. The goal is to replace all gaskets.

From two local very experienced mechanics, I am getting exactly opposite advice. One says use a high torque impact wrench (especially for the heads), and other says ONLY use a breaker bar. Both suggest new snap-on 6 point impact sockets with the shortest possible extension.

There is definetly evidence of corrosion, and it looks like the heads have been off before.

Thanks,

Don

I'd use the breaker bar to see how they feel.......
They may come off ok if someone used anti sieze.....
I think either would be OK.....:)

Ayuh,........

I've done it both ways,....... Many Times........

For Disassembley,.......
You Can't Beat a 1/2" Impact that has some Real Nuts.......;)

I'd start spraying the motor down with a Quality penetrating oil Now.......
