anyone heard this term?

was reading on a post (cant find it at all) someone suggested to
"add a little rock" to the hull. (near transom??)
he said "you would be suprised at what this does for your top speed"
was he talking about sail craft? i was under the impression he was talking motor craft.

i thought rock was somthing your boat NEVER wanted to see!

any one know?

Re: What is rock????

It's actually "rocker" and it means the bottom is convex as compared to flat from bow to stern, "hook" is the term for a hull that is concave from bow to stern . . .

Re: What is rock????

I would have assumed they where telling you to get some more weight at the front to help plane speed!! Rock is heavy.. Seems I would have assumed incorrectly.. :)
Thanks for the explanation QC

Re: What is rock????

A hook in the hull tends to slow the boat by lifting the stern and pushing the bow down. A rocker tends to increase speed by lifting the bow but can also cause porpoising and high speed handling issues

Re: What is rock????

thanks mike.
i thought it might be somthing like that!

have you ever added rocker?
how did it work out for you?
i can under stand the porposing.
if a person added a few layers of glass a foot or two in front of the transom, and running toward the bow would that work?
and could the porposing be compensated for by trim adjustments? or in adjusting the trim are you in fact canceling out the rocker?

thanks
