Just wondering if this is a make before break switch? It dosent say it on it. Its a perko, Has 2, All, 1, and off. It says FIG. 8501 then it has "stop engines before switching "off" ". on the back it says on the #2 post "ignition protected". Ill use it with my winter rebuild if its a make before break like im told i must use if i use 2 batteries. Currently im using 2 but i have 1 as a starting batt and thats all it is hooked up too is the motor. The 2nd is hooked to a fuse pannel and runs all the accessories. I have a cd player, gps, fishfinder, cell phone charger, bilge pump, and nav lights and electric ancor deploy. The 2nd battery is a 115 amp hour deep cycle and it lasts for a lot of outings without being charged. I can fish for 10 hours and use all the accessories without having a problem. This past summer i went camping and used the battery for 7 days in a row withoug charging and it didnt die. i was not worried if the acc battery died as much cause i have the other battery for starting the motor and they are isolated. Now this winter i want to be able to switch to "both" whyle running so they charge and not have to pull the 2nd battery to charge it. Thanks in advance!!

As I'm sure you know, that type switch allows you to transfer power sources with out interrupting power to the loads....engine, radio, etc. during the transition.

Also, if the engine is running, it keeps a load on the alternator, which might not like feeding an open circuit when running.
