Since thankgivin is a hot topic my question is who will you share your turkey day dinner with. We seldom have more than a couple of people here but this year will be the largest crowd in years. Our guest are my sister her new boyfriend (retired navy officer) her 2 daughters and one of their friends from college who lives in Maine and cant get home. My son and a friend of his from Equador(veternarian who cant practice here) and 2 of his fraternity brothers. I will keep my polictical veiws to myself to be sure.

Not doing Thanksgiving at home:

Will go to FIL's for lunch at 1 - There will be 4 BIL and 1 SIL and their families and friends, plus a couple of uncles, aunts, and cousins, about 20 - 25 total

Around 6 will have supper with my side of family - 1 of my brothers and family, mom, grandma, aunt and cousin probably about 15.

Just roll me home at the end of the day!

Re: Whos coming to Dinner

Well being a Chef guess who is doing the cooking? So its not really a day off for me.Thats ok though because i love spoiling my family with my cooking.
Just going to be us this year. Her sisters will stop by for some deserts and savage conversation later.Only part thats gonna suck is my mom and dad not being here this year. They are kind of in limbo right now.In the process of renovating their new home up north. They moved out of the 37 ft wilderness and winterized it.Staying with their friend until the house is done. Then coming down here to get the rest of their stuff once their new home is done. This is just to weird hard to get use to.Happy for them to be living where they are but yet going to miss them being here all the time.My dad has always talked about moving north once he retired and deep down glad he has got to do it.

Re: Whos coming to Dinner

On turkey day I'll be at my Moms with my wife and kids + brother and his daughter. At about 4 on the same day I'll be at the inlaws with them and my family again. Sisinlaw is heading to Houston to the old family dinner so she and hers will be missed. Really wanted to do a big one here at my own house were both sides of the family come, all of them. At the same time kinda glad it didn't happen. Money (just like always) is tight and feeding 25 people or so would hurt big time. I'd hate the cleanup afterwards too. Even with all the negatives it'd still have been nice to do. I like hosting parties where cooking is involved as I fancy myself a amatuer chef.

We decided to spread the wealth and we donated 12 birds to an old folks home nearby.Next thing we got was an invitation to join in the old folks thanks giving dinner. We accepted and now we will enjoy our meal with about seventy seniors who have nowhere else to go.

Thats the nicest thing I've heard in a long while. Good for you. Enjoy the day!

I usually do dinner for about 30, but this year it will just be the 2 of us plus the dog and the cat. Taking a year off. Everyone sorta scattered this year with 4 nieces at college, 2 nephews at girlfriends, 2 sisters and 1 brother out in Cali, Mom and Pops in FLA., 2 Brothers working, 1 Aunt and Uncle on a cruise, all the cousins doing in-law stuff and all the little ones scattered around with them. I'm just worried that it wont seem like Thanksgiving without the whole crowd and my little helpers in the kitchen.:(The peace and quiet will be nice and it will be a whole lot cheaper.

Re: Whos coming to Dinner

First Mate and I leave for Raleigh, NC tomorrow morning (via air) to spend Thanksgiving with the Southern side of the family. That means we'll be enjoying food, beverages, football, cribbage and all of the latest generations of children that we are so blessed to have.

If I can't give thanks for all that, then I'm not breathing!

Re: Whos coming to Dinner

First of all, we have the guest of honor

aprilshowers136.jpg

After we pick the bird, we stick the carcass on an iron post on the rock out front. Pretty soon an eagle will show up and start givin' it the hairy eyeball.

Then, as soon as a seagull lands safely...

The big guy comes swoopin' down and grabs it

And, yeah, I had to piece this together from different occasions, but that's how it happens
