Re: CB Radios

I let my DOT medical card expire a couple of years ago for some protection against having to drive the lowbed etc.I am a heavy equipment operator and it seems to be getting more difficult to find anyone that can run the equipment as well as move it and I just got tired of tying stuff down and throwing chains and binders around.I am sure it was nice and profitable for the company to send me to a jobsite with a 320 Cat for instance and bring it home with me at the end of the day if I happened to finish the job I was sent on but I am tired of driving.
I am retired now but if I somehow need the DOT card I could get it again in the time it takes to clear the drug test.
One of the other popular radios back then was an E.F.Johnson.You could also build a kit from Knight electronics,Heathkit and even Radio Shack was in the game back then.Ron G

Re: CB Radios

I have a Galaxy 959 in my pick up, with uppers and lowers and dual finals.http://http://www.galaxyradios.com/cb/959.html I used to use it a lot to commute to school. 150 mile round trip Daily. My drive to work is shorter only 70 miles round trip. I need to get a new antenna looked up and get back on the air. It was a good way to avoid cops, Truckers always know where they are. It also help pass the miles.

Re: CB Radios

That Galaxy 959 is a good radio.Basically the same insides as a Cobra 148GTL.
The 3 digit Galaxy models are made for sale in the US and come out of the box at 4 Watts power. Now to get a high power Galaxy,Connex or Ranger you have to buy the export version and have it tuned on the AM band.
The Old radios like the Galaxy 44,66,88 and 99 were the big power out of the box with a little tuning. 40 watts and up.The new Connex 4300HP export radio is putting out 90 watts, they run around 300 bucks though.

Re: CB Radios

I have a Uniden mini mobile 40 channel thats as basic as possible. Only squelch and volume. Neither of which register. Cant pick up no chatter. Never got a whole lotta use so should not have died so soon. These CB's fixable or disposable?

Re: CB Radios

i think a Uniden like you have would be more of a disposable. Probably not worth trying to fix.

Re: CB Radios

Wow...blast from the past... I had a cobra 29ltd, a texas star 150 pushing a sweet 16 (1600+watts) in my car. Had a dedicated alternator and battery just for it. But that was in my younger/wilder days before I became a HAM...my "handle" was outlaw...go figure! LOL

Re: CB Radios

CBs used to be great. Now all you hear is garbage mouth and drivers challenging one another to fights at the local Petro. No thanks.
