Would like to purchase a Johnson 250hp - mechanic says its a 1988 according to the serial number, seller says its a 1992, 1993 or 1994 (lost original paperwork). Using the NADA guide to determine value, I couldn't find a Johnson 250hp until 1992. Anyone know whats up with this? Don't want to get ripped off.

I don't think they made 250's until 1992.

I didn't notice it was your first post. Welcome to the forum. If you post the serial number their are several web sites where you could look up the model year to find out first hand what year it is.

Re: Johnson 250hp Value

Thanks for the feedback. The mechanic gave me the engine model - J150TLCCA and the serial number - R7820786. Where could I look this up (I guess I can google it, but if you have a preferred website I can use that would be great)?

Never mind - found a site. Its a 150hp, not a 250hp. Now it all makes sense. Probably my oversight or misunderstanding. Thanks to the forum I might actually save a few bucks.

Hey otto.....Your right it is a 150hp, and also a 1988, so your mechanic was right also.

OMC used the word INTRODUCES to specify years in the model#.

I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

The 2nd and 3rd to the last letter are the year. Your model # shows CC a steh 2nd and 3rd to the last numbers, so it's an 88. And obviously the 150 in the begining of the # is the HP.
