i HAVE A 1987 BAYLINER 2550 WITH A 350 CHEV ENG.

when I crank the motor it run fine, but once I put in gear, it coughs. putt

but does not cut off, it does this for about 5 -8 secs, then it fine.

need help

Have a 1987 bayliner 2550 with a 350 chev motor, and a omc outdrive

Sounds to me like maybe the shift interupt is not adjusted correctly.

Going into gear, the shift interrupt system shouldn't even be used. Watch the Y bracket on the engine when you put the shifter into gear. If the Y bracket hold in the activated position, you need a lower shift cable. It's binding, and a very common problem with the OMC and Mercruiser drives
