Hi guys

got a dt65 thats being a pain since we got the boat the engine will never start first time from cold

you can crank it over until the battery goes flat and it wont fire ive checked the plugs ects and everything seems fine the choke works with the key and closes both butterflys ect

eventualy the engine will start after say an hour of trying once its run it will then start first time everytime

vut leave the engine a few days and we go through the same process of it not starting

is there anyway of testing this to see why it does what it does

i was thinking of spraying some wd40 into the carbs next time we go to the boat and seeing if it does anything

when we try to start it doesnt even try to fire ive even tried a different which makes no difference could it be the way were starting it ?

any advice welcome

Sounds to me like your starting procedure is not right ... but first, do not spray WD40 into the carbs ever ..... anyway .... first pump the fuel squeeze bulb till nice and firm, then push key inwards while turning (this will choke it) untill you hear it fire up, then just turn key normally and she will start, rev her up .....

Re: Suzuki dt65 hard starting

since posting ive been down to the boat and found that when you push the chokes on they close but not all the way with at least 3 to 4 mm gaps on each one ive since adjusted them so they close fully just need some good weather to go and test now

im hoping this is the problem as for starting i do the following

prime fuel bulb till hard
full throttle on lever
choke on for 10 seconds
crank

last time we went it didnt want to know got through 2 batterys trying until it fianly jumped into life so im hoping the adjustments ive made on the chokes will cure this problem ill post back when ive been back to start it

Re: Suzuki dt65 hard starting

are you supposed to use full throttle on lever? Mine starts and runs without even pulling up on that lever. I have a choke button but i just choke and turn the key 1 bump on the flywheel and its ideling let go of the choke after a couple seconds.

Re: Suzuki dt65 new problem

Re: Suzuki dt65 new problem

well sorted one problem now have another

the engine will loose power then die will start again with choke but then dies when it is going it doesnt sound like its firing on both unless you give it lots

so i took the carbs of to clean and found on one carb where the float pivots on the pin there is 2 lugs that hold the pin one lug is broken causing the float to get jammed i guess going to try and attach it with some kind of glue and see how it goes

also the engine pumps water through the exhaust but doesnt seem to through the pee hole ?? could this also be part of the running problem ???

the water it does pump is nice and cool through the exhaust does it need to pump through the pee hole???

Hi,

I would probably try to find replacement part for what is broken in your carburator.
Try brownspoint.com

Try to clean the pee hole with a thin wire.
Mud, sand etc can close the tube or the end of it.

When was last time the water pump (impeller) was changed on your outboard? If status is unknown or if it was over 3 years ago it is probably time for change to a new impeller.
If water do not come out of pee hole it is not necessary a bad impeller since it can be just a clogged pee tube. But a strong water stream out of pee hole indicate that impeller is pumping water so that is why it is wise to have that before you go out to sea. Bad impeller mean bad cooling and you will get an overheated engine.
