Most likely because it is a 2 cycle motor. What year is it and what mixture ratio does it require. You can try synthetic oil and it may oil the water less, but 2 cycle engines do not burn all of the oil since some is needed for lubrication.

That is not right, but the truth is that it probably is OK. It's supposed to be 24:1, but there was no real change to the powerhead when they went to 50:1 in 1964. Make sure you use only oil Certified TC-W3. Penzoil 100% Synthetic Outboard oil meets that qualification and is bio-degradeable so you can feel better about dumping it in the creek. And your motor was designed to do just that.

use 24-1 fuel -oil mix. did not change to 50-1 until 1964. the oil slick is normal. be sure you are firing on both cylinders, and carb adjustments are correct.
