When I turn the key I notice that the alarm sounds. The engine will not go over 2000 rpms and I noticed that there is some wires coming from the temp sensors on the heads. Can someone tell me where those wires are supposed to go? They are pink and black and both sides are not connected. I have a feeling that is making the alarm sound. Thanks

need more information.
does the alarm sound at key on emgine off? key at start position?
the pink and black wires are for over temp at the heads.
black is ground pink is the signal wire.
the alarm is the same for oil or overheat.
what visuals do you have on the digital tach?

Re: Help! 1992 175 hp alarm sounding

Rodbolt, thanks for getting back to me. I am so frustrated with this thing. I know it is probably something simple, electrical problems are especially tough.

The alarm sounds as soon as the key is turned. The engine runs up to 2000 rpms and then goes into safe mode. The shop I took the motor to deleted the temp sensors and then told me that they couldn't get it to go over 2000 rpms after having the engine for 9 months. Long story short I took the boat back as is. I got the new temp sensors, but don't see where they connect to. The engine has digital guages and the "shop" also deleted the oil injection. The float for the oil tank is zip tied up to trick it to think there is still an oil tank. I don't what the wires on the temp sensor connect to or where exactly. I think there might be a wire missing, but don't know from where. I have the shop manual, but the photo does not show anything. I would appreciate any help with this. This is making me nuts.

ok
look at the pink wires. there is a set of pink and black on each head with bullet connectors.
those are for the temp switches.
try running it with the oil tank wires dissconnected. if you disconnect them while its running it will sound the alarm so dissconnect it before key on.
what color wires are going to the oil tank ?

Re: Help! 1992 175 hp alarm sounding

Rodbolt,

There are 4 wires connected to the float for the oil tank on the engine. There are blue/green, blue/red, blue/white, and a black wire. I see the bullet connectors coming off the temp sensors, but can you tell me what they are supposed to be connected to?

Thanks

take the blue/white to ground. that will keep the oil transfer pump off. the pink and black wires will plug into the pink and black, occasionally gray, wires on the engine harness.
sounds like you have had monkeys working on your motor.

Rodbolt,

Monkeys is putting it nicely! I wish there was a site where we could warn others about bad shops. Maybe a forum on iboats. Anyway, thanks for all of your help. I saw a bullet connector with two gray wires going into it, but it is currently plugged it a black wire. That is probably the connection for the temp sensors on that side. On the side with the oil tank, should that temp sensor be connected to the gray and black wires too? Thanks for all of your help. Maybe I can actually get some use out of this boat. As a side note. When I went to repo the boat there was another guy at the shop doing the same thing.

Thanks again,
Steve

Re: Help! 1992 175 hp alarm sounding

the pink temp switch leads plug into the gray wires on the engine harness. the black wires go to the black wires on the harness.
if you plug the black harness wire into the gray harness wire you will set the alarm
make sure the gray wire at the trim harness pigtail is plugged to the gray wire as well. it gives a visual indicate for the digital guages.
on the engine harness gray is used from the temp switches to the ECM and the ECM to the digital guage on the dash if the temp switch closes.

Rodbolt,

Thanks for all your help! I think I've got it figured out now. Hopefully that is all that the "shop" messed up on this thing.
