Hey, I was in bass pro shops the other day and happened to walk by some anchor winches. I never knew they even had anchor wenches, much less electric ones with remote switches. This is just too cool. Does anyone have one of these? The only thing I'm wondering is what if your anchor get's snagged? Straight to the bottom with your bow? Or are they not powerful enough for that?

They're common on larger boats. None of them are designed to pull the boat to the anchor, but I see it done all the time. Retrieval isn't much different than manually hauling it up- just power the boat directly above the anchor and it usually pulls free. If the anchor gets snagged, try pulling from different directions (just like a manual retreival). And NO- they're not designed to pull major loads. They have a circuit breaker that will trip if overloaded.

When I said Anchor Wenches, I didn't mean that my wife has put on a few pounds...

Seriously now, I'm definately adding an anchor winch to my to-do list on this boat.
