Ski Pro Boats (buyer beware)

Last spring I ordered a custom built boat from Ski Pro Boats, after many months of delays they told me it was finished so I asked to have some pictures e-mailed to me but they refused to send any. During delivery their employee wrecked the new boat so they had to send another employee out to patch it. During the repairs they enformed me that they installed the worong interior, forgot to install the heater, bimmini top, and the cover. I then told them I was no longer interested and they had assured me that if I didn't like it I did not have to purchase it, but they pleaded with me to at least look at it, so I agreed. When it arrived it got worse, it was leaking water, the speedo's did not work, the engine light was flashing, and it did not have the performance I was promised. After rejecting this complete disaster of a boat they took it back. I then requested my $10,000 deposit sent back which the owner (Jim Walker) now says he has spent it and will not give it back. I had to retain an attorney and now have a judgement against Ski Pro Boats/Marine Tec.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the heads up. A crappy thing to have to go through.

Ski Pro in San Antonio? They look reasonably substantial . . .

This is a common problem out here with small builders. Cash in the off season etc. My second boat was from a bare hull I finished. Came from a dealer who loaned a builder some cash and kept the hull as collateral. Needless to say he wasn't paid and I bought the collateral hull.

Good luck. A judgement is only good if they can actually pay. Do they have a staff now? Are they making payroll? Maybe you should consider taking a boat. 80% resale is better than 0% cash . . .

OMG :( Good luck getting your money. With the attitude of that company and owner they won't be around too much longer.

But they tend to resurface under a different name at a different location.

Their website sure looks interesting. They sure run those boats like they are jet skis, with several pictures of them catching air.

My Malibu inboard never did that -- that hull must be matched to an IO?

Buy the boat, trim it up, flip it, and sue them, blaming the accident on the reckless nature of their website with its lack of disclaimers, and you might just be the owner on the phone when the next guy calls Ski Pro (kidding of course).

So which set up did you hope to have built?

I though I had it bad with my trim tabs not installed properly. Sorry to hear your experience. Thanks for the heads up. Keep us posted.
