Possible bent prop shaft?

On the way in from fishing this morning I hit something submerged in 40' of water. Motor continued to run but didn't seem quite right. I thought I had partially spun the prop and that it was slipping. Long to short my overheat alarm came on. Took it to the shop and was told that the water pump was out and that my prop shaft was slightly bent. Does this sound right. Sure seems like a weird event for the water pump impeller to go out almost at the same time as hitting the object. No prop damage whatsoever. Was told by the shop that I could use it a little over the break but don't know what to do, Please help!!!!,
C.T. The motor is a 1995 Yamaha 115

Re: Possible bent prop shaft?

Hi.
Your water pump is the main issue. That must be fixed and I would hope that there is no damage as a result of the over heat.
If contact with a submerged object left no mark on the prop then chances are that the Skeg took the blow. The bent shaft could have resulted from another quite separate incident. If the bearings and seals look and feel good and there is no water in the oil and the prop is not scuffing on the casing then the worst you may have from the bend in the shaft is slight vibration and a very slight loss of top speed. Nothing to be concerned about.
Jim.
