Just got close to finishing a couple of my old outboards and thought I'd post a pic if anyone was interested and maybe some of you can add a couple of pics of yours. I also am posting a pic of 2 motors a friend of mine has me working on so you'll see what I mean when I say in Louisiana, old motors are pieces of junk. The evinrude 18 I ran today after a little carb cleaning, tiller gear fixing, fuel pump rebuilding, etc.---and other than a bad coil wire connection, it actually runs a LOT better than it looks.
Gotta go play with my son's new RC helicopter that Santa left before he wakes up.....:D

Thanks TMMCALAVY,
I've seen your website, before...You're restos are a little out of my league, very nice! How do you find all that stuff, especially in Texas? That's a '55 QD-16 johnson 10hp, I just haven't bought the decals yet....Can't wait to get 'em because that is a sweet running motor---one of my favorites. I just LOVE those 10hp's. They're so good on gas and nice and speedy!

Looks like you are getting a nice collection started, JBJ. I'll post a pic of mine when I'm back in Ontario.

Re: Pics of your outboard collections?

Why are you downgrading your collection with an anchor?
Although that is not the way it went, this thread was a post the pics of you collection thread, so here goes.
Chronological order, of age.

1936 Evinrude 4.3 horse. Possibly a service twin, but I am still looking for info (not at all easy - seems I have the only one around.:D)
HPIM5153.jpg

1955 Johnson 3 horse.
HPIM5139.jpg

1969 Evinrude 55.
No pictures, but who cares? To many, that POS is just an anchor.

1971 Johnson 50. Again, an anchor, but here is a pic anyway. It also has a cover from a later model.
Picture1011.jpg

1974 Evinrude 40.
Crap, no pictures.

1979 Johnson 55.
Picture1008.jpg

1988 Evinrude 4 deluxe. My main outboard. The only known running one in our collection (the 40 was sold to us as running last month, but that hasn't yet been confirmed - by the time we have time to confirm it, it probably won't run anymore.)

How do you have time to restore, and run all those? We seem to only have time to buy them, but never can get a kitchen pass to go work on them, or fish with them. Might be why only one of the 3 boats is anywhere near water ready.

Re: Pics of your outboard collections?

Well boys,

My first motor was a 3.9 merc I cobbled together from 2 non-working engines that my brother-in-law gave me for raking his huge yard when I was about 14. It was also the first engine I ever worked on. I didn't have enough parts to make a working recoil so I used a rope wrapped around the flywheel. I made many fishing trips with it until it crapped out, in retrospect because I probably ran it lean because I didn't know how to clean or adjust a carb at the time. I would really like to have another one! The 9.8 merc in my pic was one I always wanted along with a 20hp and a 3.9hp from the late 60's or early 70's. So there's the reason for "ol' blacky".
My true love is old OMC's, as you can see. A man can't have enough boat motors, fishing poles, shotguns, or dogs. Anybody that doesn't agree is just plain wrong.;)
Thanks for the compliments-- I rarely get to show them to anyone who appreciates them! BTW Bassboy, I like your old '36 and 4hp. You ought to get on the AOMCI site and ask some questions there about parts for your '36 if you haven't already done so. Also, luckily all of my motors run and the OMC's crank in 2 pulls cold--EVERY time!:)
Happy holidays,
JBJ

Well boys,

A man can't have enough boat motors, fishing poles, shotguns, or dogs.

Or flashlights.

I TRULY appreciate seeing those old gems.

I was just 'pokin' at ya, JBJ. Our first is always the most memorable. My first, I still have. A 1967 folding Ducktwin. It needs a complete overhaul. She's a little noisy but runs fine. I'll bet it has 2000 hours on it. One of these days I'll get around to it.

Along with the Ducktwin, I have a folding Lightwin (same year), a 1957 7.5, a 1975 4, a 1976 ( I think) 6, a 1975 50, a 1995 70. I've also owned: several 90's, an 85, a 9.5, a 9.9 and a 25. All 60's and 70's vintage.

By the way, I have an old Bucaneer 10 that I have no interest in. It has good compression but only fires on one cylinder. It is complete except for the lower cowl. Do you know anybody that might be interested in it?

I take it I am not the only one that uses the granny stand to store outboards on.:D

Re: Pics of your outboard collections?

We had one in the basement that mom wouldn't let us get rid of (sentimental reasons. Beats the heck out of me - why would you want to remember learning to walk after a car wreck?)
We were getting sick of trying to find a place to store the walker, and it wasn't practical to store the outboard on the back of the wood shaper, as when that machine gets used, we would have to take it off. Somehow or other, the idea popped up to hang it on that. But, what bugged us, is not one week before, we were at an estate sale, where this guy had more junk than you could believe. All the rooms of his house had junk on each side, with just a walk path in the middle. No joke. ALL the rooms were like that. He had four barns full of stuff, and his back yard was full of anything and everything. Needless to say, we came home with a lot of stuff (we like junk too). But, he had six or seven old walkers out there. We now wished we had gotten a couple.

Re: Pics of your outboard collections?

Ha Ha! I thought I was the only weirdo that noticed bassboy's and hitace's granny stands for their outboards.....Ya'll should be ashamed! I can just see poor little old ladies looking high and low all over the house for their walker....sad..sad.:D:D
They look like they work perfect, but I personally wouldn't "stoop" to such a level, if you'll excuse my pun.
Searching flea markets for "granny stands" for a boat motor....Hurrumpphh.....:p
BTW, nice '58 hitace. I'd also like to have an old 3hp just for fun, too.

Re: Pics of your outboard collections?

Yeah, I had some friends from my scout troop come over to my place to build a new chuckbox, as it seems I am the only person in the troop who has a good woodshop, and the first words out of his mouth was, "why the heck do you have a motor on that granny stand?"

You have to admit, they are well suited for the purpose. Adjustable height legs, that adjust to the PERFECT height, for long, or short shaft outboards. Carrying handles. Lightweight, but plenty strong. It is almost like they are made for it. It was first an ingenious way to store both items, as mom won't let go of here walker, (she doesn't use it) and I won't let go of my outboard (I do use it:D), but now we are looking for more.

you need to find the one with the front wheels, then you can roll the motors.
