Please help. I have a 60 hp Evinrude that I am putting on a 15 ft bowrider. The engine fires with direct power, but no spark when plugged into the red plug OMC harness from the controller. Where can I get the pin wiring diagram for the red harness so I may trace out the problem with the controller? Thanks, Ron.

90% bad ignition switch. or shorted wires in control.

A manual will pay for itself a million times over, and will contain all related wiring diagrams. This may help some. But agree with Tash, most likely an ignition switch or the related wiring.

Thanks for the responses. I have checked the switch. The continuity to the ground is closed with the key in "off" position and open in the "on" position, as it should be. I'll need to trace the wires in the harness to look for the short. I hate to spend $35 on a manual when I plan on selling the rig anyway.

The black and yellow kill wire grounds your powerpack when the ignition switch is turned to off.

Somewhere along the line the black and yellow wire is probably grounding out if the engine will not fire with the red plug connected, but will with it disconnected.

Use an ohmmeter to check the black and yellow wire between the red plug and powerpack, then red plug to the remote control. Also check the black and yellow wire at the switch with the switch in run or start. Do not allow any voltage to reach the black and yellow wire.

The black and yellow wire is at 11 o'clock on the remote part of the red plug and at 1 o'clock on the engine part.

Thank you for your responses. The link that Hightrim provided and the info from Ezeke were exactly what I was looking for to solve my problem. Thanks again.

Still no spark, guys. I checked out the switch and the harness from the controller to the red plug and all is as it should be. I have strong spark when power is direct to solenoid, if red plug is disconnected. No spark when plug is connected with power direct or thru key switch. Does anyone have access to the wiring diagram from the red plug on the motor side? I can only guess that a bare or crossed wire is grounding out the mag when the red plug harness is connected to the motor plug. Thanks for any help.

If the black and yellow wire were shorted on the engine side of the red plug, you would not have fire with or without the red plug being connected.

Did you check the emergency kill switch?

if you have fire with the red plug disconnected, the problem is in the harness or the control box. switch wiring and test "http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/ignitionSwitch.html"

Yes, checked kill switch. Now back to beginning and recheck it all from switch to plug.
