I am planning to start a pair of 1988 Johnson 200 hp. that have been winterized for some time. I plan on running a small tank (6 gal.) directly to the fuel pump. What type of oil to gas ratio should I run for this initial start-up? Anything else I should do?

50 to 1, see the chart below.

How long are we talking? If it has been a while you may need to check into the water pump and give the carbs a cleaning. I would also give them a spark and compression test to ensure that all is well.

It has been approx. 5 years since running. I just want to see if the compression is good and hopefully hear them run. I will clean the carbs and change out the waterpumps if all goes well. Thanks for the reply.

Being 5 years you should definately change the impellers before running them. Im sure the plugs will need to be looked at,full carb rebuild, and go over all electrical connections at the battery, starter, solenoid, etc... with a file and make them shine. Little critters also love to build nest in the funniest places. Check the tell tale line and nipple, and blow some compressed air up the water line when the lu is down to service the water pump. Follow with a spark and compression test. Let us know what you find. Good luck.

If your nurse tank is the only source of oil, (no oil injection) I would run 24 to 1 initially. Sitting 5 years, the parts are going to be pretty dry and need to be relubed.
