Glaspar Lido structure

I have a '57 or '58 glaspar lido. I stripped the boat to fix the transom (the floor was left in as it was in good condition). After thinking about it, I wanted to make this more "fishing friendly" by creating more standing/walking room on the boat, so I was thinking that I didn't want to reinstall the rear bench seat back in the boat. But I was wondering if this would compromise the boat's structure at all. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks. (I have a '67 Johnson 33hp to power the boat).

I restored a 1960 Glasspar Avalon which I believe has the same design as your Lido except it was 16ft. For the same reasons you state, I removed the rear bench seat and operated it for many years with motors ranging from 35HP to 75HP. Never noticed any structural problems. It was a great boat that served our family's needs well. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I'll try it out. I figure it'll also lighten the load. The bench seat assembly with the backrest must weigh some thirty or forty pounds. It's a great boat (got it running in the fall after some motor problems). It'll definitely be nice to have a little more room.
