Getting ready to do my first floor

Hey guys ,i have a 1985 bayliner 19ft cuddy and the floor between the seat boxes bad ,but good news the stringers are still good.The boat is in great shape besides the center floor.Iwill try to get pictures up soon ,any tips or suggestions befor i get started,it would be greatly appriciated

Check those stringers good, a bayliner that old they're probably bad too. Also check transom good too.

Absolutely do what rockyrude recommends. Geez, I'm just a typing fool tonight ain't I ?
Anyhow, a quick way to check your stringers is to take a small 1/8" drill bit and bore a sample holes into them. If the wood comes out wet, well you just answered your own question. Start about 6" forward of the transom. You'll only need a couple holes. Drill as deep as you can without going through the bottom ( a no brainer ). To repair, just mix up some "wet" resin and pour it in the holes - or buy some Git Rot.
On the transom just do the same thing, keeping your holes as close to the bottom as you can. If this is an I/O unit removing one of the lower thru bolts will give you a little access to the interior wood. With the bolt out take an awl or small screwdriver and poke around. You'll know if it's good or not.

the stringers are good,transom is good,the floor is rotten around the compartment in the center of the floor.im going to rebuild it so it is stronger then factory,at least the stringers are fiberglass coated on my boat.i just want the boat to last me and my family a long time

Pretty much all boats arre built that way, glass over wood. The water eventually finds its way in though rotting the wood underneath. Just hate to see you have to go through that twice.

just kidding....
i totally agree with drilling the stringers....drill holes thru the fiberglass....into the wood...espically where they come in contact with other peices...(cross braces..ect)......check...check....and re-check.....be totally sure...before you re-cover that floor......more than one of us has thought everything was "good"...and had to re-do somthing in a year or two...not fun...

re-check the transome as well....drill around any where where there is thru hull fittings....my transom started to rot 6" down from the top...and a foot over from the drive hole...never would have found it with just a few holes...
(see..easy transom removal)......
what your about to do is not hard.....but it is not easy....but it is gratifiyng.
(hows that for a contradiction.....the guys here know what im talking about)

well guys i removed the old floor last night,i found that my sawzaw was my best friend.i drilled into the stringers and transom and i found GOOD WOOD, but two of my cross braces were rotted about three inches down so im going to replace those ,lookks like i got lucky
