I'm trying to figure out how to order a part I need for a 1980 Evinrude 25hp tiller handle motor, but the problem is that I don't know what it is called and can't find it on the parts list.

My water tube was clogged on a recent outing and I couldn't find my weed eater string to stick up in it so I pulled it (the water tube) out from the engine so as to blow through it. Only problem is that the little nipple or grommet thing that the hose slides over to connect to the engine broke off. It's just a little plastic piece but I need to know what its called so I can order another one.

Funny part of the story...since I was stuck in the lake with no way to connect the water tube, I had to leave the cowling off and run the motor and let the water just shoot straight out of the motor, but it kept spraying all over the place so I duct taped an old wooden duck call to the side of the motor where the water exits so as to "direct" the water flow away from the motor. Worked pretty good!

If you are talking about the telltale or "pee tube," I think the part you are looking for is an "ELBOW, overboard indicator." The BRP part # is 0321886. The connection in the cover pan is a "NIPPLE, lower motor cover," BRP part # 0321885. The hose that runs between the two is a "HOSE, overboard pump indicator," BRP part # 0322172.

Thanks guys, I believe it is the elbow, not the nipple on the lower cowling pan. I couldn't see it in that picture, but I should be able to search the parts number.

Thanks!

P#321886 0r Sierra #18-3290, or a 1/8" threaded bronze nipple from the hardware store.

Re: Unknown Water cooling part thingy

thanks ever so much for the idea of using a bronze nipple. it really saved me as the threads in the housing were corroded and chewed up the plastic threads. I got a bronze nipple and it worked perfectly
thanks

A replacement is as close as the plumbing dept at your local Home Depot, Lowes or Mom & Pop hardware store. Nothing special about the elbo (available in plastic or brass) except the BRP price. Take the pieces with you and tell the dude I need one of these. If the guy is over 16 and knows what a basin wrench is he should be able to help you.
