Greetings Friends, I have found a 1997 200hp Ocean Runner to replace my 1995 175hp Ocean Runner. I 'm wondering what problems I might run into when I go to hang it. Mainly will the '95 harness and Oil tank work with the '97 model. Also will the 18p Stilletto wheel perform on the 200 as it did on the 175. Thanks in advance for any forthcoming info.

I don't know much about those two motors but if you use the same prop with 25 more hp, you will probably get a few more rpm out of the motor. Whether or not that gives you enough leeway to bump the pitch up to the next available increment, is something that you will have probably have to wait to see.

I would think that would be a easy swap.Everything should plug right up.

The harness are different but there are adaptors. Normally I'd say to put the 96 & newer harness in and forget the adaptors but - depending on what boat you have - you may find yourself wanting the 175 back.

I believe the wire harness changed in 1996, along with the control boxes. Your 95 probably has a red plug single connector, the 97 will have the mulptiple (deutch) connectors. You will need a Bombardier adapter cable to make it to work.

Re: Swapping motors 175 to 200hp

Thanks for the replies and info. It's good to know there are adapters available if needed.
I know there is a circuit board inside the oil tank as i had to replace one time before because of a continuous oil alarm issue. Is that board and tank compatible with the later model larger hp motor?
Also , why would i wish i had the 175 back? The boat is a Paramount 21. I thought these to motors were the same , just larger displacement. Are you referring to a potential increase in fuel consumption? I have to admit the 175 wasn't to bad. Having a jackplate and flo-scan system allowed me to dial it right in . Should the new motor be propped to turn 6k as well?
I still have the 175, i just need to rebuild it (never rebuilt a 2 stroke before ) so i figured I better cover my *** with another motor for now. Does the 1997 200 have a bad rep? I've heard nothing but good about them. Thanks again for your interest.

Re: Swapping motors 175 to 200hp

They are two different engines. The 175 is a 60-degree engine, the 200 is a 90-degree engine. At the time, 175 was the highest hp from that block. The 200 is bigger, heavier, produces more torque and could be ordered up to 225. The 90 degree blocks were always known as bullet-proof engines. The fuel consumption on the 200 will be greater, though you may be able to throttle back a little with the higher hp engine to maintain your past "normal" crusing speed.
