Could that be a Switzer hull? I seem to remember that for a time they made some go-fast boats.

Well I took that old battery down to Advance and had it checked, it was JUNK the battery was busted.. SO I bought a Deep Cycle Marine Battery, I will put it in tomorrow and see how that goes.. I am painting the motor cover right now.. I went with black.. After this last coat dries I will spray some clear on it, and snap some pics to see what you all think...

Re: 1st post on iboats

I would definitely paint the motor back to the original, or if that paint job isn't the original it looks cool. Just don't paint it black!!!!:D, just joking it is your motor, do as you like.

You are running that motor on muffs or in a barrel of water when running it or attempting to run it?

I believe you'll find that a few of these members are also members of different boards, including me, but as the other guys have mentioned this is the best forum on the internet for boating.

That boat is nice.

Re: 1st post on iboats

Again very nice. My father is acquainted with a body repair/paint man. Well my father was going to visit this man, I opted out of going with him, so I mentioned to my father to ask this man if he would paint my 15ft challenger and see how much he would charge if I had it sanded and ready to paint. The man told my father that he wouldn't touch it :(. If I remember right I sent pictures with my father so he could show them to this person.

Now this man has painted boats in the past and wouldn't touch mine, said that the paint would cost $400 a gallon or some crazy thing. This same man told me that he wouldn't charge any labor to paint my 13ft boat if I had it ready to paint and bought the paint to do the job. The worst part about it is the challenger's paint job in some areas looks like new, but in other areas looks really really bad.

The previous owner of this Challenger had started sanding on it and even primered it in spots. I mentioned to another man (that has done body work for me in the past), that I needed my boat painted and he said bring it by and he'll price it, well I have yet to do that.

I will paint this boat myself one of these days, especially if I can find an automotive paint that will come close to the colors I need.

They sell the marine paint in boat stores, there is a place called west marine ( I think) in Knoxville, they sell the marine paint for about $80 a gallon, 1 gallon would cover it, if you primed it a similar color to your paint

The majority of it is above the water line, if I can get away cheaper by using automotive I'll do that. Either way I go with it I know exactly where to find the paint, if the one place is out of the color I need then I know yet another place to go. Certain O'Reilly auto parts stores do mix paint by the gallon, even for boats.

Switzer Craft it is, I did some research today while I was cleaning some, The boat was made in Illinois, It is a 1970 Switzer Craft with a 1976 Evinrude 135 hp, The boat is in great condition for its age.. I polished on it some today, got it shining a little bit, Here are a few pictures...

Thanks for the comments, There was actually about 1/2" to the ground it barely cleared, and I didn't have the new battery hooked up yet.. However, I got that sucker cleaned up GOOD and I hooked up the new battery.. By the way that was my starting issue, I put the new battery in and it started in about 4-5 seconds.. SO come the first nice day Im gonna try her out, still gotta tint the window and do some more dye inside... Here are a few better pics..

Hi Dave welcome aboard. Is this your first boat? If so a boating and safety course would be a good start. That's a sweet boat and VERY fast.
Good luck and have fun:D

This is the first boat I have "owned" yes.. I have drove quite a few though, my uncle had a Javelin at one point and a Nitro at one point that I played around in a bit.. I also drove a pontoon for a while (rented) I have never owned my own boat though, So I got this one to try out.. Im thinking I may do the safety anyway just to have it under my belt *Cant be to cocky, or you will wreck* I will try it out this spring I can't wait, Everyone keeps saying this boat is going to be fast, Im starting to get a wee bit nervous about it, I may have to get rid of it and get a bass boat.. I just want something the family and I can enjoy..

Thanks for the comments... See yall on the water..
