Just got done pressure washing my boat/carpet. Maybe a bad idea...:(

When I went to turn the power switch on after I was done washing it, the motor automatically began trimming itself all the way down, and kept going.. Checked the Pro-Trim on the column and was fine, checked the trim on the throttle, and also the trim on the motor???

2001 Mercury Optimax 225hp.

You probably got water in one of the switches. Try blowing them out with compressed air or spraying them with something like WD-40 to displace the water. Also make sure you didn't soak your relays.

Just blew them out, and put w-d40 in them... still trimming down, I'll wait a little longer and check it again...

Any other suggestions???

My be a relay is stuck and has nothing to do with your spaying the carpet. You didn't spary the switches did you?
Anyway, switch the relays and see if the problem goes to up. Or if it stops after changing, it may be a sticky relay. Then it would be time to replace the relay.

Ok... Now that I think about it, when I got around the console, I stood back a few yards and sprayed off the dash, steering wheel, etc.. Then I got under the console, and sprayed around the hot foot, there are some wires down there that could have easily gotten wet, I guess I should have never done that...

I'm not to mechanically savy... so... I may just wait for the boat to dry completely, and then see if the wires dry off, etc...

As of today... same thing... still trimming down when power switch is turned on. Where exactly are the relays?

Starboard side of the motor. There are 3 relays, the 2 trim replays have blue and blue/white wires to the up relay, the down relay has green and green/white wires.

Thanks. So I should take the cap off the motor and check the relays. Which ones should I disconnect/connect to see what the problem is?

Unless you have some magical way of getting to the engine without taking off the cover, yes, you have to remove it.
Then switch the relays, don't just disconnect them. I explained which ones earlier.
