2-3 foot overhang?

I would like to use my trailer for a 24 footer to haul a 28 footer. The trailer is rated to handle the weight but it appears that the stern will overhang about 2 to 3 feet. This will be about a 700 mile run. I've heard of people doing this but I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about the overhang. Your comments please.

Can you move the winch tower ahead any?
This would give you a little more room to bring it forward.

Right now it's as far forward as it will go.

Re: 2-3 foot overhang?

My concerns would be:

Is the tongue weight sufficient. If not, can you move any weight forward in the boat to increase tongue weight, or move the axles back. Perhaps this is not an issue with trailers and craft of this size. ( I am only used to single axle stuff under 20')

Will the extra length of boat unsupported at the stern end be an issue? Perhaps not, considering the size of the boat, but you could perhaps extend the bunks or add other support for the stern.

Obvious, I know, but extend the lights to the back!

I would be worried about dammage to the boat even small boats have enough weight to tweak the hull shape if there not suported on the trailer

Is it a roller trailer or bunk?
Might extend the bunks some to help.
You would want to get your tounge weight right as has been stated.
That 700 mile run could turn ugly.

It's bunks. I think I'll try to find a trailer that's longer. If anyone in Az or Ca has a trailer for a 28 foot boat let me know.

especially if it is and I/O most of the weight is in the stern, engines-outdrives, hanging off the back of the trailer.

I would reall be concerned with having that much weight unsupported. The tongue weight would also concern me.
