See attached pic: Can i shorten this rail with the "existing hardware" thats there? So that i can step easier up onto the bow. Or do i need to get more hardware to do it? Like take out longer of the stansions etc.? I would like to shorten it like just to the base of the windshied so i have a place to step going up onto the bow. Thanks

Well it could be done but with the angle of each brace bar (I guess you could call it), there might be a little bending/manipulating to get it to set back into its original mounts after cutting them shorter.

Yes. However, your rear extension will move or the angle will be wrong. You can remove the rear portion and cap the tube ends.

Re: customizing this bow rail ?

You mean just remove the back half and leave 4 stansions and discontinue it from the second stansion back?

I dont think that would be very stable. I'd like to still attach the end of the top rail down to the top deck

Ok picture doing this? on one side the rail attaches in 5 spots.= 4 stansions and the #5 end deck mount. From bow to stern 1,2,3,4,5. Remove #1,#3 and move 2,4,5 forward? it should lower the rail some but thats ok, and i should be able to run the top rail into the end deck mount. comments?

why not add an end stantion, on each side of the bow, and cut out center.

or....................
using Tashadaddys pic, at the redlines, bend the bow rail peak down to the deck. Without cutting anything or moving anything else.

Maybe it's just my old age showing but I would not attempt to walkaround that cuddy to get onto the front deck. It was not designed for that and appears to be very narrow. I would be content with crawling up through the access hatch. Be safe! Nice boat. Good luck.

Re: customizing this bow rail ?

Just by looking at pic, here's what I would suggest.

Remove rail after second stanchion, install hand rail on windshield frame (front and sides) for grab bar (see if you can salvage what you remove) and install white anti-slip tape made for bathtub and showers (not the abrasive stuff) at all walking areas.

It seems you have snaps on the windshield frame. See if you can mount the hand rail 2 to 3 inches away from the windshield and high enough from obstructing view. Probably in line with the frame.

Those are some really great ideas thrown at you, I think the idea of creating that gap in center is doable, I would make it like the one in old-gubbins photo.
I agree it's not really a walk around, but just for hoping in and out onto a dock or beach it would be nice to have that opening in the front.

Re: customizing this bow rail ?

I dont want to change the very front at the bow. Except to maybe lower it some so the top rail can sweep down to the top deck and attach near the base at the windshield area. I know it's not a walk around and it wouldn't be used as one very often, but if i wanted to hop up onto the bow quick i'd like the rail out of the way on the sides of the side windows there. Thanks for the replies though. I'll try to do a some art work and post it too. This ought to be funny. haha! he non slip is a good idea too. Also i'm hoping to build/add ahardtop next winter but for now i need to do something with that long a** rail. If/when i do a hard top i can have some stury handles. Thanks again. " i'll be back ":D

Re: customizing this bow rail ?

Something like this. See attached. I should have enogh hardware to achieve this huh? i migh have to move stanchions forward to get a uniform distance between them and maybe cut some of the top rail sections. So if i take out the ones marked red and move the ones marked green up? What do you think? thanks:D

instead of moveing it fwd. maybe just add one ea. side to stabilize the ft. of it. then ya could have 3 or 4 pts of contact per side. the 4th one being the aft one. which ya might get away w/o..... per yer last pic...
