1972-85hp rude been having a problem getting a hard bulb. From reading my manual I see where it gets suction from the engine to operate. Anyway I took off that line and when I pump the bulb gas comes out of that outlet on the fuel pump. I do not believe it is sopposed to do that. Is it?

Yes.
My guess on this one is the fuel pump bulb is bad.
The bulbs have two flapper valves on them.....if the one in the back is bad you won't get pressure.

Only other thing it could be is the float needles stuck OPEN in the carbs. If this were the case you would have gas everywhere.

I believe that third line obtains pulse (pressure & suction) from your motor and, no, I don't believe there should be fuel coming out of the line when disconnected. That fact, and the lack of a hard bulb suggests to me that your fuel pump is on the way out. I would change it quickly to avoid the possibility of getting junk from the disintigrating pump in your carbs.

Re: Fuel pump problems?

exactly what is said in your other post. bad fuel pump

"either float needle not closing. or if using after market bulb, hold bulb vertical, with arrow pointing up, they work better that way. are the plugs wet. if so fuel pump diaphram may have a pin hole in it. leaking into the crank case, flooding the motor.'

Looks like I made a stupid mistake. when I took my fuel pump off and put it back on I hooked up the lines wrong. I just went and figured out what I did wrong and now it is running great:)
