I just found this site, I purchased a new Tahoe q7i last year in august and really love the boat. I'm glad I finally found a good forum site. Looking foward to getting involved and learning a few things. One question, I've run outboards all my life, I am new to inboards. The boat I bought has the mer. 5.0mpi with the bravo 1 outdrive. With proper maint. what is the average life of this motor and outdrive? I run a 4 blade 17 pitch solas ss, prop on the boat, and it runs 4950 rpm, which I understand to be good as far as rpm's go. And information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to iboats! Here's a big tip for you: Go to "User CP" in the horizontal nav buttons above and put your engine model and it's serial#, and your drive model and it's serial # in your signature. Saves a lot of time on the tech forums. Then put your location in so it appears under your name. This info helps a lot (see, right now it's not possible to answer your question as we don't know whether you're boating in salt or fresh water ;))

chaos....welcome to i boats.....

this is a great site and the people here are really up on their stuff...

a 5.0 with b1 drive..?...unusaual...but cool !

are you sure that isnt an alpha?.

with regular maintenence...it will last forever...your chevy will go for 200,000 miles.

maintenance is key......search merc i/o questions....

as with your ob...never fire it on land without water going to the drive...if its a b1 i think there is a thru hull inlett for raw water cooling.

never start the motor with the drive all the way up. and run your blower for five mins before you flash up the motor.....

you should be good to go.....
if not...the mechanics on ths site are fantstic.......there is a story here....some guy broke down on the lake...he hooked his laptop up to his cellphone ....got on this site.... and one of our mods got him running back to shore.....really cool

cheers

Yeah, I'm sure it's a Bravo 1 1.65 gear ratio. I didn't know the whole motor all the way up part...that's how I loaded and unloaded all last year. I figured it didn't matter since it had dual water pickups, All ready learned something new. Thanks
