There's a few small passages - look harder. I soak my carbs for a few hours, anything more isn't all that necessary.

You'll notice a small metal disk in your rebuild kit. You need to locate a similar disk above the float bowl. Take it of, clean out underneath, and replace with the one in your kit. Your manual will explain the procedure best.

Re: cleaning a carb?

Patrick,

I just cleaned my 73 85hp carbs last night. Here is what I found.

Two screws on bottom side of the carb bowls, drain screws for gas with I believe high speed jets behind them, manual not in front of me, remove both of these.

Two screws on side of top of the carbs, remove these also. I think there are jets behind these screws also, mid speed jets, once again no manual in front of me.

Two screws on each side of the front of the carbs, remove these. Low speed jets??

Float needle valve seat screw inside top of the carb. Big brass looking screw.

I removed all these after soaking, then cleaned carbs, blew them out with compressed air, then used carb cleaner on all orfices, blew again with compressed air, then wd-40 and blew again with compressed air.

Used same procedure for pick up tubes, two brass looking tubes in top part of bowl. Did not remove these just cleaned real well.

Opened choke and butterfly valves to ensure compressed air and carb cleaner was coming through the orfice/vent openings.

Re-assembled and installed.

Used white paper towels to lay all parts on so easy to see and find.

Make sure you adjust floats to specs and use retainer clips for the float needle if your carb kits have them.
