There is a thread on the Engine FAQ Forum about awakening a sleeping outboard that covers a lot. http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31

The motor needs 50:1 87 or 89 US octane gasoline to TCW-3 oil.

You need to drain the float bowl at the bottom of the carburetor. Use a rag to catch the junk that comes out (and the screw plug when you drop it).

You should put new water pump impeller in and check the thermostat.

Be sure to check the gear oil in the lower unit.

The parts manuals are on-line: http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e

You should try to get a model-specific factory service manual. Any Factory manual from 1968 up to 1973 9.5 Evinrude or Johnson will work. There should be one on ebay.

Thanks ezeke, that is perfect! just what I was looking for. I do have the manual. Now, where is a good place to get the parts I will need. I live in ohio but I can order online. Thanks again. Patrick

There are numerous places in addition to your local dealer, starting with right here on iboats.

I believe that you will want to work with someone local whenever you can. The shipping costs alone will make it hard to save unless you buy a lot at one time. You can find the parts nearby by using the dealer locator; enter your zip, or your area code to broaden the search, and the third choice on the page. Most dealers get a delivery at least once a week, so you can call and set it up: http://dealerlocator.evinrude.com/EN/?Rnd=1203117777296

When you call a dealer, give them the model number and serial number of your motor. They can then go on the computer and get the most recent, up-to-date information and parts for you.

In the meantime, aftermarket parts like complete water pumps, accessories and gaskets can be purchased right here at iboats.

The stop button does connect to two wires that run from under the flywheel. You can replace the button with OE or with the more modern lanyard type that is required in many jurisdictions.
