I am putting it all back together and I have new exhaust manis and Risers but one bolt on one side isn't "stripped" but it wiggles i can't tighten it any more but it will move to and fro. I was wondering if there is a way to test the manifold riser seal for leaks before I put it together and dump water in to the new engine. The other 3 bolts are SUPER TIGHT. This is on a 305 with center manis and 4 inch risers with four long bolts holding them down

Dunno if you can pressure test it, but there are lots of options for fixing stripped threads.

Kris, You will likely hear a leak in the manifold to head connection. Also, your motor will starve for oxygen in that closed engine compartment.

I think he is referring to the bolts on the manifold/riser, not the manifold/head.

If you can't retap the threads..............maybe you can use a shorter bolt or add some washers............depending on how many threads you are catching.

Just a thought............

Since the mannys are new, can you return it as defective? If not, how about substituting a stud and nut for the bolt that is loose? Or retap to larger bolt size. That connection is very likely to leak, with a loose bolt. Use genuine MerCruiser gaskets (the expensive silver ones). They go on dry.
