will someone please help me i have a 18ft center consol bay boat with a 3ft fan tail its an aluminum boat made by rockwell .It has a 1996 140hp suzuki, I have had problems with this boat getting on plane since i bought it . many people say the boat is under powered. I did have a fuel problem but took care of that(varnish in gas). Had fuel pump rebuilt considering having carbs rebuilt. The boat has a 30 gal tank under consol, i don't think weight distribution is a problem. But weight in the boat is a problem 3 people its ok 4 people it takes for ever to come down, triming up and down helps a little.

Thanks,

A 140 should plane out a 18 foot aluminum verry well! there is something wrong if it is not preforming on that hull. Eather the motor is not running rite or the foam in the hull is saturated and weighs too much. If you got a lot of foam under the deck then take your rig and have it weighed. That 140 should do a 18' alum boat good justace! in my opinion anyways. If it is not that the boat is hevy then there is something not working right with the motor.

Ahoy, Rambeaux.

Welcome to iboats. :)

I would look into the rigging first, then the prop.

Is the AV plate even with, or an inch or two, above the keel?
Are you able to trim out enough to get porpoising?
Do you have a hydrofoil or Smart Tabs on it?
What rpm are you reaching at WOT with the 3 passengers, 4 passengers?

Hmmmm. Don't know the rpms, huh?

You will need a tachometer to solve this, Rambeaux. Until you know what rpm you are reaching with different loads all you can do is guess about a prop.

Since you have the trim tabs I suggest that you remove the hydrofoil. I doubt that it is hurting anything, but with trim tabs you don't need it.

One other thing you might do. Take the boat to a shop that has a dynamometer and get a readout on just what power your Suzi is making.

I have a relative with one of the first year model Suzuki 4stroke 140's on his 22 foot boat and his boat will go 40+mph. Your suzuki has a problem.

I think the 1996 would be a 2 stroke. Is that correct, Rambeaux?
