My tilt/trim stopped working, no noise, nothing from either the control switch or the switch on the engine. Odd thing is it didn't work, started the engine up and it worked for about 10 minutes. I shut the engine down and started it up hours later and it did not work at all after multiple attempts throughout the day.

Any tips on diagnosing this problem would be appreciated. i.e. is it a relay or switch? Electric motor? etc. Where are the relays located?

Thanks.

you can find the relays on most motors by locating the wire that comes from the trim motor.

there should be one or two solenoids. check you service manual for testing details.

Is it possible to open up the switch? My 2001 had stopped working in just one direction. I was able to open up the switch and found a tiny hunk-a-gunk had worked it's way in between the contacts
