I have a 14 foot v bottom boat that I converted into a mini bass boat with a raised front deck and a floor installed all covered with marine carpet. The motor I have is a Mercury 110 9.8 horse long shaft that runs great. The bottom of the prop is about 13 inches lower than the bottom of the boat. I am considering building up my transom to raise the motor up, but before I go through the trouble I could use some advice on this and would like to know if it is even worth the effort. How would it change the performance of my boat if any?

Re: propeller depth

First the cavitation plate should be level with the bottom of the keel, bebore spendind the time trying to build the transom up raise the engine with rev sticks to see if it helps

Rev stick is a 1/4 inch stick like a piece of a wooden yardstick.put it on top of the transom to support your motor as you raise it a little at a time.
A good starting point is with the antiventilation plate(just above the prop)
even with the bottom of the boat. For best results your prop needs to be in excellent shape.raise the motor a little at a time until just before venting becomes a problem.Be sure it pumps water and the clamp has a good grip.
If you can raise it an inch you could gain a couple of mph.
Once you are all set you can consider a prop change for for a little more help.

Re: propeller depth

Thanks, that is encouraging. Right now I have a 2 blade prop but I am having a hard time finding one for my motor. What should I be looking for? A new one just like the old one or a high performance prop if there is such a thing. How do I know if I need to replace mine and how much will a different prop improve my performance?
