I am selling my Rinker Siesta 243 and looking to purchase a small bowrider and Larger Pontoon. I would like suggestions on small bowriders 17'-20'. Which manufacturers should I stay away from and which are quality? Same for Pontoon boats 22-28'? Thanks and have a great week.

Re: Bowrider

Not a huge fan of purchasing new boats, cars etc. I am not looking for anything older than 2000 and the budget is 8-10,000 for the bowrider and 15-20,000 for the Pontoon. Thanks for your help.

Re: Bowrider

watch Ebay for the toon, alot of them in the north. some with good prices. try to find one with 24 inch toons. there are a multitude of good bowriders. go outboard, as they a much easier to winterize, and maintain.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.

A 30 year old boat motor combo, may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

Re: Bowrider

We have a Harris-Kayot 26' toon with a 4.3L Alpha 1. Very nice lake cruiser.

Re: Bowrider

yeah, as was said more info needed on uses, # of people, etc. As you likely know "17'-20' " is a big range for a bowrider! A 17' is very small so normally would be a different buyer (different needs) than a 20'.

I guess with two different boats you can cover all your needs better than one compromise boat! Good idea. Heck any reason to own two boats is a good reason!

Re: Bowrider

Good point. Pontoon plus an older ski boat (no outdrive) is a popular combo to own too.

Re: Bowrider

Thanks to everyone that has replied. I appreciate all of the input. We are looking for bowrider to pull the littles ones and "go fast" as my kids would say and want the pontoon to cruise with our large family. Keep the ideas coming. Is there any brand of bowrider or toon I want to stay away from? I have been told not to buy Bayliner. Any thoughts?

For models older than 2000 I would suggest looking for a Nice Clean Glastron, you cannot go wrong. Brands to stay away from 199? - 2003 would be Tahoe. 2004 and newer I LOVE Tahoe's. When Tracker bought them out and moved the factory to Oklahoma they reworked all of the molds and really made a nice boat out of them.
