Yesterday I had great plans to get the boat in the water.
I noticed the leaves under my motor were oily looking. I inspected the lower unit and found a crack that ran from the back of the housing near the prop forward about 3-4 inches. There is a slow oil leak from it. I am new to boat motors. I have read that if water is not in the oil, which it should not be because it has not been in the water since it cracked, that i could have the crack welded. Is this correct?

Most weld jobs on the lower unit burret distort themwhere they will never seal, so goiod luck. If the engine had been winterize properly you would not be in this fix.
